The best way to take off weight and firm up your body is the old-fashioned approach: diet and exercise. However, even people who adopt healthy lifestyles can find it difficult to eliminate lingering pockets of fat in certain areas. While liposuction is not a weight reduction program, it can often be effective in improving stubborn localized areas of fat excess. In these cases, internationally known, double-board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Jay Orringer, can provide liposuction to improve the contour of these problem areas and help better reflect the body for which you have worked so hard. Here, Dr. Orringer lists some of the areas that are most effectively treated with this surgery:
Hips
Hip rolls and flank-hip rolls, colloquially known as “love handles,” are the extra bits of fat that rest on the sides of the body above the hips. This area is one of the most common places for unwanted fat to accumulate. Liposuction of this area and the area above it on the back, called the flanks, often produces a very pleasing body contour change.
Abdomen
Patients who are displeased with their isolated belly fat excess may find liposuction is one of the best ways of achieving a flatter abdominal wall. Be aware, though, that tummy tuck may be the preferable treatment for patients who have loose skin and muscle laxity in this region. During a consultation, Dr. Orringer will assess the tone of your skin and muscle to determine which procedure may be most appropriate.
Thighs and Legs
Thigh fat can be among the most stubborn of fat deposits on the entire body, resistant to even the most diligent diet and exercise regimens. Therefore, it is no surprise that the outer and inner thigh regions are among the most commonly requested areas for treatment with liposuction. It works best in the setting of limited cellulite deformity and good skin tone.
While liposuction on the lower legs is much less common, it may still be effective for addressing excess fat that accumulates at or below the knee.
Chin and Neck
Liposuction can be effective in reducing the appearance of a double chin. That said, facial procedures such as facelift and neck lift are often better for patients with loose skin or muscle bands in the neck.
