In a recent exclusive interview with Entertainment Tonight, Beverly Hills 90210 actress Shannen Doherty revealed that she is undergoing chemotherapy for her breast cancer.
Last May, Ms. Doherty underwent mastectomy to remove the cancerous tumor in her breast. During the interview, she told ET that she has received amazing support from her team of doctors, which includes Dr. Jay Orringer. “He didn’t want me to wake up with absolutely nothing,” Doherty said. “It was very important to him that I didn’t have that experience, and so, he put an expander in, so I have a tiny something there. It’s cute and sometimes we fill it up and make it bigger, and sometimes we reduce it.”
Throughout Dr. Orringer’s career, breast reconstruction has been a very rewarding aspect of his practice. He has extensive experience performing a variety of complex breast reconstructions, and considers it an honor to help women during this difficult time. “There is no greater privilege than attempting to restore a sense of wholeness for a woman undergoing breast reconstruction after cancer treatment or in the prophylactic setting as with a BRCA gene mutation.”
While Dr. Orringer has performed breast reconstruction on high profile patients such as Shannen Doherty and others, he considers every patient to be special and unique, and deserving of compassionate, individualized care.
If you have been diagnosed with breast cancer or are at high risk as with a BRCA gene mutation, you may find that breast reconstruction is an important aspect of your treatment. You can learn about your options by speaking with Dr. Orringer in person at his Beverly Hills plastic surgery office.
