Plastic surgery requires extensive training, skill, judgment, and experience. Some claiming “Board Certification” may have limited training in plastic surgery. However, certification specifically by one or more of the boards affiliated with the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) requires graduation from an accredited medical school followed by a residency training program in the given specialty as well as the passing of a rigorous written and oral examination.
This page discusses some basics of board certification, but the best way to learn more about Dr. Orringer's credentials and receive his personalized plastic surgery recommendations is to speak with him in person. Please contact our Beverly Hills office to schedule a consultation today.
What Does Board Certification Entail?
Different from a medical license that is not specialty specific, surgical board certification by the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) requires an expertise in a specific specialty or subspecialty of surgery. Dr. Orringer is certified by both by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and the American Board of Surgery, which required that he complete full residencies and examinations in those two separate surgical specialties.
He is also a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. In order to become a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, it is necessary that the surgeon’s education and training, professional qualifications, surgical competence, and ethics pass a rigorous evaluation that meets the high standards of the college extending beyond simply Board Certification.
Choosing a surgeon certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery may better assure that your plastic surgeon has the educational background, experience, and emphasis on safety that you deserve
