Dr. Jay Orringer’s popularity for breast augmentation in Beverly Hills is due not only to the aesthetic, individualized results he strives to achieve for his patients, but also the attention he devotes to post-surgical care. To help his patients in their recovery phase after breast augmentation, he offers the following information about activity after receiving breast implants:
Immediately after Surgery
While some patients assume they should restrict themselves to bed for the first few days after their surgery, Dr. Orringer encourages his patients to start taking short walks on the evening of surgery. Continuing these walks regularly in the first couple weeks is an easy way to expand the lungs and promote circulation. Walking boosts endorphin production, may improve mood, and naturally lessen post-operative discomfort. With the surgical support bra in place, Dr. Orringer usually allows sensible use of the arms immediately after surgery to avoid stiffness and promote return to normalcy.
After Two Weeks
This can be a tricky period for some patients since they generally feel well enough to resume full activity, even though the body may not actually be quite ready. While activity is generally beneficial this early, it is better to use caution when it comes to exercise, rather than overdoing it.
Generally, patients receive approval from Dr. Orringer to resume most aspects of their normal routine after about two weeks. With the support bra in place, moderate activity like yoga or going for brisker walks is great. As activity increases, limiting lifting to less than 10 pounds is reasonable for the first four weeks.
After One Month
Most patients have healed enough to resume their normal activities between four to six weeks after surgery. It is a good idea to discuss exercise plans with Dr. Orringer beforehand, since patients heal at different rates and recommendations will vary based upon the actual procedure done. Strenuous exercise should be reintroduced slowly to determine what the body can handle. When it comes to weights, do not lift them above the head until the arms have regained their full range of motion and start off very lightly. Do only what feels comfortable and progress gradually.
