Plastic surgery procedures may yield beautiful, natural results regardless of the season in which they are performed. At The Renaissance Medical Center for Aesthetic Surgery, Inc, Dr. Jay Orringer helps his patients work toward their aesthetic goals year-round.
However, when planning your breast reduction, breast augmentation revision, tummy tuck, or other procedure, it is important to consider the benefits that come with each season. Winter surgery offers patients a few unique advantages, and many people choose to schedule their procedures in the cooler months.
It Is More Comfortable to Cover Up
In California, our winters are mild and we don’t experience the freezing weather that is common across most of the country. However, our patients still appreciate that it is more comfortable to wear multiple layers, if necessary, in December than in June. Colder temperatures can make it more pleasant to dress how you want during the recovery process.
Depending on your procedure, you may need to wear post-surgical dressings or compression garments temporarily. In the winter, these garments may be more comfortably worn.
It Takes Less Effort to Avoid the Sun
We all know that the sun can damage our skin. It is important to avoid sun injury, especially to healing surgical scars. Sun injury may darken scars and may delay healing. Many patients find that it takes less effort to avoid the sun during this time of the year. In the winter, the sun’s rays tend to be less intense. It is also more comfortable to cover your treatment area with clothing in the cooler months, as mentioned above.
You Can Look Your Best for the Summer
After any surgical procedure, your body will need some time to heal. If you want to enjoy your results during the summer, it is wise to schedule your surgery in advance. While many people start considering plastic surgery when swimsuit season is right around the corner, winter is actually a good time to start planning your new summer look.
